Schedulous Glossary
Average Revenue Per Member (ARPM)
The average amount of revenue each active member generates per month.
Definition
The average amount of revenue each active member generates per month.
Why It Matters
Revenue per member tells you how effectively you are monetizing your membership base. Two gyms with 200 members can have wildly different revenue if one has a single membership tier and the other offers personal training, nutrition coaching, and premium access.
ARPM is also a leading indicator of member satisfaction. Members who add services, upgrade plans, or buy merchandise are engaged members. A rising ARPM often correlates with better retention because members who invest more tend to stay longer.
Tracking ARPM over time helps you evaluate whether new offerings (like small-group training or challenges) are actually moving the needle or just adding complexity without revenue impact.
Formula
Total Monthly Revenue / Total Active Members
Industry Benchmark
Most gyms fall between $50-$150 per member per month. Gyms with strong ancillary revenue (PT, retail, events) often exceed $120.
Stop guessing. Start tracking.
