Schedulous Glossary
Check-In Rate
The percentage of active members who check in at least once during a given period.
Definition
The percentage of active members who check in at least once during a given period.
Why It Matters
Check-in rate tells you what percentage of your paying members are actually using your gym. A member who pays but never shows up might seem like free revenue, but they are actually a cancellation waiting to happen. Disengaged members do not renew.
This metric is different from attendance frequency. Frequency measures how often active visitors come. Check-in rate measures how many of your total members visit at all. A gym with high frequency but low check-in rate has a small core of dedicated members and a large group of paying ghosts.
Improving check-in rate often starts with reducing friction. Long check-in processes, confusing booking systems, or intimidating gym environments keep paying members away. Sometimes a simple "We miss you" message to members who have not visited in two weeks is enough to re-engage them.
Formula
Members Who Checked In at Least Once / Total Active Members x 100
Industry Benchmark
Strong gyms see 65-80% of members checking in at least once per week. Below 50% means a significant portion of your base is disengaged.
